777 engine being tested destroys part of hangar at Zurich airport

Um Boeing 777–300 from Swiss that was preparing to conduct an engine test at Zurich airport ended up destroying the anti-sound protection of a specialized test hangar. The incident occurred last week, there were no injuries.

However, the fact that the hangar where the incident took place is specialized for engine testing is noteworthy. The Hangar was built by WTM Engineers and specifically designed to muffle acoustic noise so as not to disturb those living around the airport. In addition, the special hangar has a special structure to contain the strong a currents that are generated by the thrust of the engine.

Interestingly, because it is a Boeing 777, the Ge90 engine has a force of 329 to 512 kN (74.000 to 115.000 pounds), being enough to throw a car or even a large truck depending on the intensity. The cause of the incident is under investigation.
