Use of FAB planes by ministers will be investigated by the courts

The use of Brazilian Air Force transport planes by government ministers will be investigated by the Federal Court of Auditors and the Federal Public Ministry, following a request from the Ethics Commission of the Presidency of the Republic.

That's because the ministers used FAB planes 781 times in just 5 months, with 238 signs of irregular travel, which are those that are not prohibited by law, such as the use of FAB planes to return to the minister's hometown. This is according to a report published by the newspaper “O Estado de S. Paulo”, on November 7, 2016.

Senators who make up the opposition to the government had access to this news and asked the Ethics Committee to forward a complaint request, after the investigation of the case. The long term from November to May was to analyze whether there were irregularities in the flights, since the ministers need to justify themselves and present the public agendas that prove the displacement for work.

For the president of the Commission, Mauro Menezes, “there are indications of an oblique non-compliance with the norm”. The Ethics Committee also recommended the clear establishment of rules for the use of GTE planes by politicians, even broader than the decree signed in April 2015.

While the FAB does not disclose the value of each trip, Exame researched a trip with an aircraft equivalent to the VC-99 (ERJ-145) by an air taxi company, and the budget presented was R$ 76 thousand to make the stretch Brasília – São Paulo, while the stretch between Brasília and Porto Alegre costs R$ 136 thousand.
