CNC raises projection for national tourism growth to 5,8% in 2022

The National Confederation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC) revised its projection for growth in Brazilian tourism this year from 5,1% to 5,8%.

The new forecast stems from the 8% increase – the 18th in a row – in the billing of services, in which Tourism is included, in the month of August compared to the same period in 2021, pointed out this Friday (14.10) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

The August result for the services sector represents an increase of 10% compared to February 2020, the last month before the Covid-19 pandemic. The Tourist Activities Index, according to the IBGE Monthly Services Survey, grew 1,2% in August compared to July this year and is currently 0,1% above the February 2020 level.

As for the level of jobs in national tourism, CNC's expectation is that jobs will return to the level prior to the global health crisis from the beginning of the hiring period for the next high summer season. According to the entity, in August of this year, 86% of vacancies eliminated during the pandemic had already been occupied again.

The highlights in the generation of jobs in the tourism sector are the segments of bars and restaurants, with 295,2 thousand new workers, and accommodation services, with 71,8 thousand hired. With the maintenance of the expected ission rate, the CNC estimates that the segment should end 2022 with 309,3 jobs created.

The positive numbers from the August survey by the IBGE are added to other favorable data related to national tourism. According to the Federation of Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism of the State of São Paulo (FecomercioSP), for example, the sector earned BRL 94 million in the country during the first half of this year, 33% more than in the same period of 2021 .

The WTTC (World Travel and Tourism Council) revealed, in September this year, that Brazil occupied the 11th position as the largest world tourism market in 2021 (in 2019, the country was in 13th place). According to the WTTC, last year, US$ 103,5 billion (equivalent to 6,4% of the world tourism GDP) resulted from the Brazilian territory.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA), in turn, indicated that, in August 2022, Brazil was the only one of the major domestic aviation markets to show growth greater than the pre-pandemic period. The index advanced 0,6% compared to the same month of 2019, suring sector powers such as the United States (8,6% drop) and China (37,8% decrease).

As for accommodation, a study by the Forum of Hotel Operators of Brazil (FOHB) revealed that the occupancy rate of the branch in Brazil increased by more than 74% in the first eight months of 2022 compared to the same period of 2021. grew in all regions of the country, especially in the Southeast (increase of 85%) and the South (increase of 78%).
