Reviewing its plans for the summer peak season, American Airlines will cancel about 50 scheduled flights. Thousands of travelers are expected for the period, mainly driven by the easing of pandemic restrictions.
Despite the cuts, American expects intense movement mainly between the months of June and July, precisely also those that received the most flight cuts. There is great expectation that the pre-pandemic levels of 2019 or even will be sured.
The airport most affected by the US airline's cuts was Chicago, one of the company's main hubs. The months of June and July had almost 20 flights canceled each month, and there are also smaller numbers in the months of August with 8.326 flights, May with 1.428 flights, and September with 138.
American is not the only major airline to cut flights in the summer peak season, Lufthansa also had to cancel at least 34 flights in the period.
“We are now publishing our final schedule approximately 100 days in advance, which is in line with how we adjusted our schedule in 2019 before the pandemic. American is proud to offer customers the largest network of any US airline during the summer, with an average of more than 5.500 daily departures.” said Andrea Koos of American Airlines.
The company also reported that engers who have their flights canceled or changed and are dissatisfied will be able to request a full refund.
