Embraer jet suffers serious accident in Russia; leader of the Wagner Group is among the victims

An Embraer Legacy 600 jet crashed this Wednesday (23) in Tver, Russia, killing around ten people according to the Tass news agency, which is linked to the Russian government. The executive jet was carrying seven engers and three employees, including Yevgeny Prigozhin, leader of the Wagner Group mercenaries, a death confirmed by the agency. Tass and by the Russian media.

In addition to Prigozhin, the death of his 'right hand man' Dmitry Utkin was also confirmed. The plane took off from Moscow for St Petersburg after a meeting with Russian Defense Ministry officials. An investigation was opened to determine the causes of the crash of the Embraer Legacy 600.

The plane is an executive jet manufactured by Embraer from the Legacy 600 line, one of the best sellers in its category. The jet operated under registration RA-02795 and had been delivered to the Wagner Group in 2020.

According to data from the Planespotters.net website, the jet registration RA-02795 was produced in 2007, having been originally delivered to Linxair of Serbia, also operating in the fleets of International Jet Management (Austria), MNG Jet (Turkey), Autolex Transport, and being ed on in September 2020, to the Wagner Group, which started to use the aircraft.

The Wagner Group even participated in the invasion and conflicts of the war between Russia and Ukraine in early 2022.
