The Department of Airspace Control (DECEA) made some changes to the laws and regulations regarding the use of drones in Brazilian airspace. The changes were made to the ICA 100-40 document and aim to make actions easier and more practical.

The measure aims to speed up flight requests, reduce the time it takes to receive responses and make the use of drones more flexible in locations close to airports, as long as they do not compromise the safety of operations. According to information released by DECEA, the number of requests for drone flights grows by 40% per year in the country.

For Rogério Neves, CEO of E Tecnologia, a company that operates in the geotechnology solutions market, this change was necessary. “With the increasing number of drones in Brazilian airspace, it was very important that there were flexibility so that we could fully enjoy the benefits of this tool”, he says.

The executive states that “drones are technologies used every day by different professions in various sectors. As they evolve and laws and regulations adapt better, we may see even more drones being used. In the field of topography, for example, they are essential.”

One of the most used features in drones today is the coupled laser scanner. Neves comments that “when we couple lasers, we can further increase the accuracy of reading areas, promote greater agility and increase the amount of data collected in a short time. This resource can be used in topographic, planialtimetric and cadastral surveys, generation of digital models of terrain and elevations, 3D models and inspection of structures, making the work faster and more accurate, which is beneficial for the entire production chain”.

In addition to the topography, surveying and geotechnology sectors, drones are commonly seen in the areas of civil construction, environment, mining, engineering projects, geology, among others.
