On 29 March, RAF Eurofighter Typhoon fighters which were on Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) left Lossiemouth Air Base to monitor two Russian TU-160 Blackjack bombers approaching British airspace.
The RAF worked closely with NATO partners to monitor Russian aircraft as they ed through a variety of international airspace before being intercepted in the North Sea. The fighters intercepted the supersonic bombers, ensuring that the aircraft did not enter UK airspace.

“Our brave RAF pilots have again shown that we are ready to respond to any threat to the UK. Alongside our NATO allies, we must remain vigilant and aware of Russian military activity.”said Gavin Williamson
Defense Secretary.
The RAF routinely identifies, intercepts and escorts Russian aircraft transiting international airspace in close proximity to the UK's area of interest. This is the second time in the same week that RAF planes have taken off to investigate Russian aircraft activity around the country.
The Russians said nothing about the case. But in previous cases they claimed that they were flying in international airspace and did not infringe anything. The British claim that the intercepts were precautionary in nature.
