The Russian Interstate Aviation Committee has announced that it is close to releasing a preliminary report on the accident with an Aeroflot Sukhoi Superjet 100, which occurred last month (May).
This advance was possible because the investigators were able to reconstruct the accident in a simulator, using data from the two black boxes, information from airport cameras and also GPS signals.
A "complete flight reconstruction" was presented to the Russian Ministry of Transport after synchronization of cockpit recordings and air-to-ground communications with Moscow's air traffic services.
The committee points out that the preliminary report – over 100 pages long, and expected to be published after the final review – will not include a conclusion on the causes of the accident, which resulted in 41 deaths.
Despite this, the report already brings some recommendations, the first of which was announced this week, when an overhaul of SSJ100 aircraft was requested by the Russian government.
The technical committee involved in the report includes experts from the Interstate Aviation Committee, as well as representatives from Aeroflot, Sukhoi Civil Aircraft and federal regulator Rosaviatsia.
