The perspectives for the movement of engers and cargo in Porto Alegre are optimistic for 2022. In an event held on the 18th, Marcelo Vitorino, country manager of TAP Air Cargo, explained that “enger flights have been increasing gradually since the second half of 2021 and the forecast is to reach a level close to that recorded before of the pandemic during the IATA (International Air Transport Association) summer season, which will start next March”.
For those waiting for flights to return to Lisbon, the good news is that there is already a date set: from March 27 flights departing from Porto Alegre to the capital of Portugal should not only please engers, but also contribute to the Rio Grande do Sul cargo handling market.
By the way, this is a very important movement, because according to Edson Brum, secretary of economic development of the state, the increase in flights favors tourism and industry. “The state needs and is receiving very special attention from Fraport at our Salgado Filho airport”. The secretary explained, also during the event, the importance of expanding the runway, expected for this year, as a driver of economic possibilities in the region and in Mercosur.
For Fraport Brasil, the resumption of flights to Lisbon is a sign of the recovery of international traffic and a sample of how much the airport can contribute to the region through the expanded runway. According to André Ogg, the Company's cargo coordinator, several aircraft that combine enger and cargo, and have greater flight autonomy, will be able to benefit from the 3.200m of the extended runway.
