Airbus Flight Academy Europe (AFAE), a subsidiary of Airbus, has just opened its newest campus in Angoulême, in southwestern . During the ceremony, Airbus confirmed that Barcelona-based airline Volotea will be the first airline to recruit the newest Airbus pilots.
Volotea's decision to recruit eleven of the cadets is a recognition of the confidence of the Training Program, which opened its doors in 2019. The program equips new pilots with the skills and mindset needed to become an “operationally ready pilot” with a focus on important development of the pilot's main technical and behavioral skills.
Currently in the final stages of their pilot training, the Airbus cadets will Volotea and fly as commercial airline pilots from April to May of this year.
The opening of the new facility provides AFAE, which is the first flight school to run the Airbus Pilot Cadet Training Program in Europe, with an increased capacity to train up to 200 pilot cadets at the same time. The site, which extends over 4,7 hectares, includes a new building of approx. 3200m² that will be dedicated to the training of aspiring pilots with 14 classrooms and briefing rooms, simulator room, auditorium and restaurant.
Furthermore, the manufacturer expects demand now estimated to be around 550.000 new pilots over the next 20 years, Airbus is ensuring that the commercial aircraft industry is ready for air traffic recovery in the period 2023-2025 and beyond. .
Going forward, AFAE stands ready to adapt its operations in line with Airbus' long-term zero-emissions ambition, while ensuring that it maintains the comprehensive and innovative approach to training that Airbus has been renowned for over the past 50 years, through regular training introduction of the latest technologies and learning concepts, including environmental education from the first day of class.
The Airbus Pilot Cadet Training Program is open to high school graduates aged 18+ worldwide. Candidates will undergo online and in-person screening tests before being eligible for the training, which will include over 750 hours of ground lessons plus 200 hours of hands-on training (flight and simulator).
