During a ceremony held this Thursday (6/6), in Brasília, the CEO of BH Airport, Daniel Miranda, received the award and highlighted that ESG is a strategic pillar for the terminal and, in recent years, the airport has advanced in planning this area, incorporating the theme into its culture.

“Receiving this recognition is a source of great joy and honor for our terminal, which is committed to sustainability throughout its operations, balancing development and environmental responsibility. We already have important projects in the area of decarbonization, collection of recyclable waste, reuse of water, preservation of fauna and we will continue to discover new strategies to consolidate our airport as a reference in sustainable operations in the aviation sector”, he states.

BH Airport is also a signatory to the UN Global Compact and was recognized for the third year in a row as a Green Airport, by the “Green Airport” Program of the Airports Council International (ACI-LAC). In 2023, the Minas Gerais terminal became the first carbon neutral airport in Brazil, through Airport Carbon Accreditation certification.

That same year, 1188 tons of CO2 were offset through the acquisition of certified carbon credits for preservation in the Amazon region. Since 2017, BH Airport has already reduced more than 48% of its direct emissions, which represents a reduction of 5156 tons of CO2 in the atmosphere.

The president of Anac, Tiago Sousa Pereira, participated in the awards event and highlighted the importance of actions for decarbonization, ing that, today, the aviation sector is responsible for 2% of global emissions. He also highlighted that Anac established the Sustainable Aviation project as a strategic priority.

“Sustainability will be the main issue in the aviation sector in the next ten years. And, today, we call on all aviation sectors to think about ways to contribute to global efforts to reduce polluting gases. Combating the adverse events of global warming requires thinking differently and we will not be able to do this without dialogue and t construction,” he said.
