Fraport, which manages Salgado Filho Airport, received preliminary information indicating that most of the runway will need to be reconstructed, in accordance with its initial expectations. Companies responsible for soil analyzes have already sent partial results, and the complete report is expected to be delivered by next Monday (15).
If the procedures proceed as planned, Fraport intends to complete the works before the end of this year. During the repair period, consideration is given to not immediately starting work on a section of the runway, thus enabling the resumption of landings at the airport.
With this panorama, Fraport has structured itself so that Salgado Filho Airport can operate flights between October and December. However, some conditions still need to be agreed and will be discussed at a meeting next Tuesday.
The terminal has been inoperative since May 3 due to the flood. However, Fraport has plans to resume boarding and disembarking operations at Salgado Filho next Monday, while flights will continue to be diverted to Canoas Air Base. The airline service stations at Park Shopping Canoas will be deactivated.
