Former Rockwell Collins executive could be Boeing's next CEO, report reveals

Former Rockwell Collins chief Kelly Ortberg has been added to the list of candidates under serious consideration by Boeing for the chief executive officer position, reported the The Air Current on Sunday, citing industry officials.

As reported by the trade publication, Ortberg, Pat Shanahan, CEO of Spirit AeroSystems, and Stephanie Pope, director of operations at Boeing, are among the names considered for the position at Boeing.

According to Reuters, Shanahan and Pope are being considered as contenders, along with the chairman of the board of Boeing, Steve Mollenkopf. At the beginning of July, the Boeing informed that it would acquire the Spirit, its former subsidiary, through an all-stock deal worth US$4,7 billion.

A Rockwell Collins is responsible for producing aircraft communications systems, electronics and aviation technology for commercial and military customers. Ortberg retired in 2021 after leading the Rockwell Collins and its successor companies for approximately eight years, while facing mergers, acquisitions and restructurings, also serving as an advisor to the CEO of RTX.

A Boeing did not provide an immediate response to the company's request for comment. Reuters. The company is looking for a new CEO after Dave Calhoun announced in March his intention to step down by the end of the year, as part of a broad management restructuring following the explosion on the dashboard of a 737 MAX in January.
