Due to safety concerns, United and Delta Airlines stop operating flights to Tel Aviv

With the worsening of the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in the Middle East, the United Airlines and Delta Air Lines have chosen to temporarily suspend flights to Tel Aviv. The two airlines had recently resumed flights to Israel, after months of interruption due to recent local conflicts.

Recent tension in the region, heightened by the Israel-Hezbollah conflict, is increasingly affecting air operations. A United Airlines, which flies daily to Tel Aviv from Newark, said in an email to USA TODAY:

“Starting with tonight’s flight from Newark Liberty to Tel Aviv, we are suspending for safety reasons our daily Tel Aviv service while we evaluate our next steps. We continue to closely monitor the situation and will make decisions about resuming service with a focus on the safety of our customers and crews.”

Likewise, the Delta Air Lines has temporarily suspended its flight to Tel Aviv from New York JFK, with the suspension expected until August 2. The company stated:

“Delta flights between New York-JFK and Tel Aviv will be paused until Friday, August 2 due to the ongoing conflict in the region. Flight sales for DL234 on July 31 and August 1, and DL235 on August 1 and August 2 are suspended. Customers affected by the schedule change will receive notifications via the Fly Delta app and information listed on their reservation.”

Last year, when the conflict between Israel and Palestine threatened peace in the region and airline operations, both airlines suspended flights from Tel Aviv. The three big US carriers left Israel, but the Delta and United they returned recently.

Flight operations in Beirut have also been affected by the current conflict between Israel and Lebanon. O Lufthansa Group was the first to suspend flights to Beirut until August 5th. Right away, Turkish Airlines, Air , Transavia e Royal Jordanian Airlines made the same decision.

Airlines Aegean Airlines e Condor also ed the growing list of suspended flights to Beirut.

A Aegean reported that he is “constantly evaluating developments following instructions from competent authorities”, while the German carrier Condor, which operates weekly flights to the Lebanese capital with a 320-seat Airbus A180 departing from Düsseldorf, also suspended the route until further notice.
