Avianca Flight 9418 carrying 168 engers from Pereira to Bogota had its takeoff aborted due to an apparent failure in the left engine at Matecaña International Airport (PEI) in Pereira, Colombia.
The incident involved 164 engers and 4 crew, all of whom were safely evacuated to Runway 26. The airport was temporarily closed.
In a statement, Avianca stated: that during flight AV9418, scheduled to operate the Pereira-Bogotá route on November 27, we recorded an apparent failure in one of the engines during takeoff. Therefore, the crew made the immediate decision to abort the flight and remain on the ground.
Following established safety protocols, engers and crew evacuated the aircraft and are in perfect condition.
Our team assisted engers with accommodations and relocated them on flights throughout the day so they could continue with their travel plans.
“Our pilots and crew are trained and prepared to act in situations like this. We understand that what happened caused distress to engers and we have made our team available to assist them,” said Juan Esteban Kappaz, director of flight operations and pilot of Avianca’s Airbus 320.
We will carry out a full investigation into the incident, in accordance with protocols, together with our suppliers and the competent authorities.
