On Wednesday (23), senators approved Bill 13/2022, called the “Joca Law”, which creates new rules for the air transport of domestic animals, in addition to making it mandatory. Animals may be transported in the cabin or in the baggage compartment of airplanes, depending on their weight, with the exception of guide dogs, which continue to have the guaranteed right to fly alongside their guardians.
The original text from the Chamber established that airports with more than 600 engers per year would be required to have a veterinarian responsible for monitoring the conditions of boarding and unboarding of animals. The rapporteur removed this rule, arguing that it was an “exaggerated” measure.
