LATAM and Lufthansa Technik sign agreement to reduce delays and cancellations

LATAM Group has signed a contract with Lufthansa Technik to implement AVIATAR on its Airbus A320, Boeing 777 and Boeing 787 fleets, covering more than 300 aircraft. LATAM is using AVIATAR’s Predictive Health Analytics to transform data into preventive maintenance actions, which allows it to optimize technical operations and minimize unexpected disruptions, such as flight delays or cancellations, by up to 20%. Additionally, AVIATAR’s Electronic Technical Record digitizes communication between the cabin and the maintenance team, improving efficiency.

Predictive Health Analytics, a state-of-the-art digital solution within AVIATAR, Lufthansa Technik’s independent digital products and services platform, uses real-time data from the airline’s aircraft and systems to optimize fleet maintenance. The digital tool allows potential technical alerts to be predicted before they occur, improving operational reliability and reducing unscheduled maintenance events. This translates into fewer unexpected repairs, greater fleet reliability and better maintenance planning. Ultimately, these benefits contribute to a more efficient and seamless travel experience for LATAM engers. Initial results confirm a reduction of approximately 20% in delays and cancellations due to technical reasons thanks to this technology.

Enrique Parada, Director of Engineering and Maintenance at LATAM Airlines Group, said: “Lufthansa Technik has proven to be a key partner in our digital transformation project. This agreement is a key step towards leveraging data-driven knowledge and optimizing our maintenance operations. We see great potential to integrate more AVIATAR products into our own digital solutions in the future.”

AVIATAR’s Electronic Technical Record streamlines aircraft issue reporting by cabin crews by replacing manual input with pre-populated text blocks and automated input fields. The solution records technical information in real time, both in flight and on the ground, significantly improving data quality and transparency. Compatible with multiple devices — including tablets, smartphones and computers — it allows pilots to access aircraft status anytime, anywhere, with built-in backup processes in case of connectivity issues. By integrating real-time data with LATAM’s Maintenance and Engineering system, the solution facilitates immediate maintenance actions after landing, ensuring fluid collaboration between pilots and maintenance teams. This reduces response times and operating costs, while also enabling trend analysis through a standardized data structure, ing continuous fleet optimization.

As part of this strategic partnership, Lufthansa Technik and LATAM will work together to address key challenges, develop data-driven solutions and foster product innovation to improve LATAM’s technical operations and maximize the benefits of Lufthansa Technik’s Digital Tech Ops Ecosystem.
