The Emergency Airworthiness Directive (AED) for Embraer EMB-545 and EMB-550 aircraft came into force due to the possibility of collapse of the landing gear, both main and nose.
The DAE, number 2024-10-02, was motivated due to occurrences of corrosion, damage and rupture in some sets of locking springs for the extended position of the nose landing gear (NLG) and main landing gear (MLG) of these airplanes.
Failure of these springs could cause loss of locking capability in the extended position and collapse of the MLG and NLG structure during airplane takeoff and landing operations.
DAE requires, within the next 10 flight cycles or the next 10 days, whichever occurs first, that the affected springs installed in the NLG and MLG assemblies be inspected and replaced, as applicable. Additionally, DAE prohibits the installation of the affected springs in these airplanes.
