Managed by CCR Aeroportos since March 2022, the Iguaçu terminal has undergone a series of improvements to the structure and continues to be modernized. R$270 million is being invested to expand the enger terminal, build three new aircraft aprons, new air cargo terminals, among other interventions in the first phase of works, which will be completed by the end of 2024.

As highlighted by the terminal manager, Wander Melo Jr, CCR Aeroportos intends to make major investments in Foz airport, transforming it into a reference for nature and event tourism.

“Foz Airport has unique characteristics in the airport sector. We are on a triple border, we have several tourist attractions known worldwide and the local infrastructure allows events to be held throughout the year. All of this means that we have constant high traffic and, therefore, we cannot rest in this work of offering a terminal capable of handling this demand”, Wander pointed out.

Foz do Iguaçu and aviation: aligned growth

The growth of Foz do Iguaçu can be illustrated through the city's airport development. The first terminal was built in the 1930s, operating small flights, but already highlighting Iguaçu's tourist potential by receiving illustrious visitors such as Walt Disney, in the mid-30s.

With the fame that the city obtained thanks to the Iguaçu Falls, there was a need for expansion and transfer to the location where it is today. The then Iguaçu National Park Airport gave way to the current Gresfi Club, which preserves a space of memory for the old airport station.

In the 1970s, with the construction of Itaipu Binacional and the city's latent growth, Foz do Iguaçu International Airport began to be managed by Infraero. Over the years, several modifications were made to accompany the tourist infrastructure that was installed in Foz.
