Aeroitalia has announced the incorporation of an Embraer E190 into its fleet. The aircraft was presented last Sunday (29), with the company's official livery and will now be part of the operation alongside another Brazilian manufacturing unit already in service.
Both aircraft were leased from Greek carrier Marathon Airways under an ACMI (aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance) contract. The aircraft, ed as SX-PTM, is nearly seventeen years old and was originally delivered to Baboo Airlines, later known as Darwin Airline, of Switzerland, in 2008.
It is currently owned by the leasing company Azorra and has been subleased to Aeroitalia in an exclusive wet-lease agreement for the route between Rome-Fiumicino (FCO) and Milan-Malpensa (MXP). The model has capacity for one hundred engers in a single-class configuration, with a 2×2 layout.
The aircraft's first commercial operation took place today (30), on flight AEZ2023 from FCO-MXP. The 318-mile (509 km) route was completed in 57 minutes.
Since the start of operations at the end of 2022, Aeroitalia has adopted a strategy of accelerated growth. It currently operates a fleet of fourteen aircraft on scheduled routes in Italy and to other destinations in Europe.
