The Taliban advance in Afghanistan caused not only the mess at Kabul International Airport, but also a mass evacuation of the Afghan armed forces. On one of the escape flights to Uzbekistan, an A-29B Super Tucano ended up colliding with a MiG-29 when intercepted.
The accident occurred on the night of the 15th in Sherabad, Surkhandarya province, on the border between the two countries. To avoid the capture of the aircraft by the group, the Afghan military fled with A-29 Super Tucano, AC-208 Caravan, UH-60 Black Hawk, MD-350, Mi-8 Hip and Mi-35 aircraft, seeking refuge in Uzbekistan. About 46 Afghan military aircraft landed at Termez Airport. On Sunday, information revealed that one of the Super Tucanos had been shot down by the Uzbek defense.
However, what actually happened was a collision between one of the A-29s and an Uzbek Air Force MiG-29 Fulcrum. According to information gathered by the Air Force Magazine, three Afghan A-29s entered Uzbek airspace trying to land at Khanabad Airport, but were redirected to Termez and accompanied by two MiG-29s. The Attorney General of Uzbekistan reported that, during the escort, one of the A-29s collided with the MiG-29, with the crew ejecting. They were rescued and taken to the hospital in Termez.
