Air traffic controller arrested after incident at Washington airport

An air traffic controller was arrested on Thursday night (27) after an incident in the control tower at Ronald Reagan Airport in Washington, according to a statement from local authorities.

The worker, identified as Damon Marsalis Gaines, 39, was charged with assault and battery, according to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, which operates both the Washington DC Regional Airport (DCA) and Dulles International Airport (IAD).

The airport authority, which has its own police force, did not release details about what led to the controller's arrest. There were no reports of injuries in the incident and the Federal Aviation istration (FAA) said the employee was on leave pending an investigation, but did not comment on the events that led to the controller's arrest.
