Recently, the Airbus has released its latest order and delivery figures. The September 2024 figures highlight the challenging environment the European aircraft manufacturer finds itself in as it seeks to meet growing demand for its aircraft.
This month, the company announced orders for 235 aircraft, including 35 A320neos, five A350-900s and five A350-1000s.
The orders also include 15 A320neos for the CDB Leasing and 190 A321neos, distributed between Cebu Pacific (70) CDB Leasing (65) and 55 for undisclosed customers. The identities of the customers of the widebody have not yet been informed, but the news agency Bloomberg suggests that the Air India could be a prime candidate for the A350s, as well as some of the A320neos.
The company delivered 50 new aircraft in September 2024, which represents a 9% decrease compared to the same month in 2023. However, total deliveries in 2024 reached 497 aircraft, an increase of 2% compared to the 488 deliveries in the same period the previous year.
The delivery of 50 aircraft to 29 customers included one A220-100, four A220-300s, one A319neo, 12 A320neo, 28 A321neo, one A330-900, two A350-900s and one A350-1000.
A Airbus Boeing Co. continues to target 770 aircraft deliveries in 2024, although it has adjusted its previous forecast of 800 due to supply chain challenges such as engine and component shortages. The company has delivered 497 aircraft so far, leaving 273 to reach its target. If achieved, that total would represent an 11% increase compared to the last quarter of 2023, although analysts consider that target challenging.
There were plans on the part of Airbus to increase production of its A320neo line to 75 aircraft per month by 2026, but the manufacturer had to postpone that target to 2027. Production is currently at about 50 single-aisle fuselages per month, while the A220 line in Mirabel, Canada, is facing problems and delays. So far in 2024, the company has received orders for 667 aircraft, resulting in 648 net orders after cancellations.
While it does not disclose its annual targets, the manufacturer is believed to be targeting around 1.100 net new orders annually.
