A Airbus delivered 735 commercial aircraft to 87 customers worldwide in 2023, demonstrating strong performance despite a complex operating environment. The Commercial Aircraft business recorded 2.319 gross new orders (2.094 net). As a result, Airbus' backlog at year-end 2023 was 8.598 aircraft.
“2023 was a landmark year for the Airbus Commercial Aircraft business, with exceptional sales and deliveries that were in the upper range of our target,” said Guillaume Faury, CEO of Airbus. “Several factors worked together to help us achieve our goals, including the increased flexibility and capacity of our global industrial system, as well as strong demand from airlines to renew their fleets with our most modern and fuel-efficient aircraft.” Guillaume added: “This is a remarkable achievement. My thanks go to our customers, supplier partners and all the teams at Airbus who made this happen.”
“Originally, we predicted that aviation would recover sometime between 2023 and 2025, but what we saw in 2023 was, along with the single-aisle market, the return of wide-body aircraft much earlier than expected and with vigor,” he said Christian Scherer, newly appointed Airbus CEO for Commercial Aircraft. “I congratulate our commercial and regional teams and, most importantly, I would like to thank our customers for their trust and partnership. We have never sold so many A320s or A350s in the same year, not to mention that we welcomed seven new customers for the A350-1000. Travel is back and with everything!” Christian added: “I’m proud to say that there are now 735 more fuel-efficient Airbus jets flying today, paving the way for our lower carbon future. It’s the orders we win today that will help us invest in innovative and even more sustainable solutions tomorrow.”
