According to the website Poder 360, Airbus said that the new presidential plane will take two years to be delivered and the aircraft will only be available from 2027.
The option would be for Lula to accept the purchase of a used plane available on the market.
The Planalto Palace requires that the plane have greater range than the current one, which needs to stop to refuel when flying to destinations in Europe or the United States, for example. It also needs to have a large meeting room, high-speed internet, the ability to refuel in flight, a double bedroom and a bathroom with a shower.
Lula wants to increase the number of guests on trips, especially deputies and senators, to get closer to Congress and to honor allies. A larger plane will be useful for this strategy.
There are also complaints about the discomfort of the current aircraft, which Janja considers too small. The First Lady has also expressed irritation with the number of technical stopovers required on long trips. The future plane has already earned a nickname in Brasilia. It is referred to by politicians as “Aerojanja”.
