Airbus Chile inaugurated its own solar plant, which covers 100% of the company's operations during working hours. Sophie Primas, French Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade, was present.
With over 20 years of direct presence in the country, Airbus maintains its facilities at Tobalaba Airfield. This is where the office buildings, the MRO hangar for helicopters opened in 2018, and the Airbus Chile Training Center are located. The latter is the training center for pilots of aircraft of the A320 family, which now has two modern simulators.
The solar plant has more than 729 solar s installed, has a power of 343 kW and will generate 519.161 kWh annually. The structures are located above the company's parking lot, as well as on the roof of the main building.
The project was built within the framework of the energy services system (ESCO), with the first works starting in 2020 and finishing in 2024, with this second phase. The licenses had to be requested from the municipality of La Reina, but also from the General Directorate of Aeronautics and the Aeroclub of Santiago, since it was necessary to carry out a study of “Electromagnetic Glare and Distortion”.
In of sustainability, this project will prevent the emission of 126 tons of CO2 per year, which is equivalent to lighting 288 houses or planting 3.221 trees.
