Airbus to lead conceptual study for next-generation NATO helicopters

On its official website, the Airbus Helicopters announces that it was selected by NATO and Procurement Agency (NSPA) to lead a conceptual study on the project Next Generation Rotorcraft Capability (NGRC). The contract involves collaboration in the design, development and implementation of a medium multirole helicopter. Along with the collins aerospace, RTX's Raytheon and MBDA, Airbus will conduct a 13-month study that will investigate two integrated concepts for new-generation military helicopters.

“Participating in this NATO study for the next generation of military helicopters offers a unique opportunity to leverage our experience working with different European armed forces,” said Bruno Even, CEO of Airbus Helicopters. “Our goal, together with our highly qualified partners, is to develop a European solution, a concept that would meet the needs of the NATO armed forces while ensuring industrial sovereignty for our European nations and maintaining core engineering competencies”, he added. “This project will be fully interoperable with other NATO assets. With our experience in civil and military helicopter design, we are convinced that we have the right high-performance, operationally efficient and cost-effective solutions at Airbus Helicopters for the next generation of military helicopters.”

The project involves , , the United Kingdom, the United States, Ireland and Italy, with the participation of different partner companies. Each of these partners will contribute their expertise, which includes helicopter design, systems integration, connectivity, weapons and effectors, avionics and sensors. The study will focus on high-performance rotorcraft, with modular and multi-mission concepts, fully interoperable with NATO standards and equipped with resilient communication systems and advanced connectivity.

In the official statement, the manufacturer reaffirms its commitment to improving integration between manned and unmanned platforms. Furthermore, it highlights its solid track record in bringing together participants from Europe and other parts of the world to carry out audacious projects, such as the Next Generation Rotorcraft.
