Last Sunday (16), Air New Zealand flight NZ99 between Auckland and Tokyo ended up diverted to Brisbane, Australia, for a somewhat unusual reason.
According to local media, the company's CEO, Greg Foran, was making the same flight, but on an official New Zealand government aircraft that was supposed to make a brief technical stop in Papua New Guinea, for refueling.
Due to the technical stop, it was found that the aircraft had a technical problem with one of the engines, making it impossible to continue the official trip to Japan, leaving the entire delegation with the Prime Minister, Christopher Luxon, trapped in Papua New Guinea .

To overcome the situation, the government jet was authorized to fly at low altitude to Brisbane, at which point Foran requested that flight NZ99 be diverted, as the plane had enough seats in economy class to accommodate the entire delegation. Christopher Luxon, in turn, continued his journey on two commercial flights via Hong Kong to reach Japan.
After boarding the flight, Greg Foran used the crew communication system to apologize and ed the flight attendants by offering drinks to the flight's engers.
Finally, according to data from Flightradar24, the unscheduled stop in Brisbane resulted in a two-hour delay.
