Rio de Janeiro will host the most popular event in the maintenance (MRO) and technical procurement sector in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC): the ALTA CCMA & MRO 2024 conference, which, with 750 participants, is expected to generate contributions to the city estimated at more than 1 million dollars in a direct, indirect and catalyzed manner.
Promoted by the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA), the event brings together industry experts to discuss solutions that generate efficiency and maximize the development of the sector, in addition to the meetings of two major ALTA committees: Technical Procurement and Maintenance, dedicated to sharing best practices and technologies for the sector.
The theme is opportune because in June, United Airlines placed its first aircraft in the maintenance hangar at Galeão Airport, in Rio de Janeiro. The arrival of the company's MRO marked an important step and left the city in the spotlight on the international scene, with a center of excellence for aircraft maintenance. Estimates indicate that about a thousand direct jobs can be generated, however, as it requires a qualified workforce, the MRO area always needs training and new tools for its constant development.
With that in mind, ALTA CCMA & MRO will be a great showcase for the sector, since in the 3 days of the conference many deals are carried out between airlines and suppliers, creating opportunities for the industry in the region and for Rio de Janeiro.
“During the event, we were able to foster relationships and boost transactions. We bring a unique format by holding more than 2 meetings between airlines and suppliers, in addition to generating an academic agenda that updates the sector with the most modern technology”, highlights the CEO and executive director of ALTA, José Ricardo Botelho.
In 2022, almost 100 million engers were transported domestically and internationally in Brazil. With 768 aircraft, the country has the largest fleet in the LAC, making it an imposing market, but still with a lot of potential.
The year 2023 should prove to be one of the best for Brazilian tourism. This is because the forecast is that the sector will collect R$ 752,3 billion this year, equivalent to 7,8% of the national GDP. The value will exceed by 5% that recorded in the pre-pandemic (2019), when R$ 716,5 billion were ed. By the end of the year, the more than 50 economic chains will also be responsible for 7,9 million jobs. The data are from the Economic Impact Report, produced by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC).
For Botelho, these numbers demonstrate the importance of aviation for the economy, but it is still very little close to what the country can achieve.
“The MRO area is an entry channel for investments, which consequently generates jobs and income for the country. And Brazil has many windows of opportunity that need to be frequently discussed”, he affirms
