The Argentine government announced the return of the open skies policy. Taxes on takeoff, circulation and landing of aircraft in Argentine airspace will fall, as long as they are not limited by current legislation. There will also be tariff freedom and it will not be necessary to call public hearings for new competitors to enter the market.
Measure opens airspace for foreign companies, including Brazilian ones, to invest in the Argentine domestic market.
Privatization of Aerolineas Argentinas
The megadecree has 83 pages, 13 of which are dedicated to changes in the aviation sector. The part dealing with Aerolíneas takes up just one page. In it, Milei changed two articles of Law 26.412, of 2008, which renationalized the company, under Cristina Kirchner's government.
The law said that the company could not be privatized again. Before returning to State control, it belonged to the Marsans group, which had purchased it in 2001 together with Austral, another local airline. Austral was absorbed into the Aerolíneas structure in 2020, under the government of Alberto Fernández.
In addition to revoking the ban on the sale of the company, Milei's decree authorizes the transfer, partial or total, of the share package of Aerolíneas Argentinas and Austral Líneas Aéreas, and their subsidiaries, to employees of the respective companies in accordance with the Ownership Program Shared
