Argentine government reduces investment value destined to Aerolíneas Argentinas

For next year, the Argentine government will reduce the amount invested in the state-owned airline Aerolineas Argentinas. The reduction will be of US$ 102 million, as the company recovers from the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Earlier this week, Pablo Ceriani CEO of Aerolíneas Argentinas said in the Chamber of Deputies of Argentina that the company should fully recover next year, reaching around 13 million engers transported. 

In addition, the executive said that the Argentine state company should show growth in the domestic aviation market, with a larger share of the market at 5%.

For 2023, the Argentine government's investment will be US$ 412 million, already ing for a reduction of US$ 102 million. Although the dollar amounts are lower compared to 2022, Aerolíneas will receive a higher amount in Argentine pesos due to the inflation that the country faces.

“In real , the projected budget in Argentine pesos for 2023 would be around 90 billion. That is, about 26% above the numbers of 2022”, said Pablo Ceriani, CEO of Aerolíneas Argentinas.

Since it became controlled by the government in 2008, the airline together with Austral has received a financial contribution of US$ 7 billion, in 2021 the amounts were US$ 669 million mainly due to the global health crisis that caused the interruption of flights in Argentina for a few months.

According to the executive, the company did not use all the amount ed on from the government, he also pointed out that this year 48% of the amounts ed on to the airline were used. According to Ceriani, Aerolineas' growth allowed it to cover most of the operating costs.

For 2022, Aerolíneas Argentinas expects to reach 11 million engers transported, raising that number to next year.

This year, the company reinforced its fleet with four new Boeing 737 MAX 8s and an Airbus A330, reaching 79 aircraft in the fleet, in this list are the Embraer E190 jets from Austral, inherited after the merger of the companies. It also announced an order for a Boeing 737-800BCF freighter.
