A BLUE signed an order for three A330-900s that will allow it to further expand its international network and complement its existing A330 operations, bringing the airline's total fleet of A330neo aircraft to eight.
“We are delighted to have secured three more Airbus next-generation widebody aircraft, which ensures the complete transformation of our old fleet to a newer one. We are focused on keeping our wide-body fleet stable while at the same time taking advantage of the fuel economy of these aircraft”, declared John Rodgerson, CEO of Azul, who continues: “with this order, we have done exactly that.”
“We applaud Azul's decision, which shows its forward-looking strategy and proves that the economics and performance of the A330neo are the most attractive. The A330neo is the perfect tool to Azul in expanding its fleet with the right size of modern widebody, leveraging the latest technology and efficiency, contributing to CO² reduction”, said Christian Scherer, CCO and Head of Airbus International .
The A330neo is a member of the family Widebody, an Airbus leader, delivering lower operating costs and less environmental impact by combining enhanced technologies from the A350 with highly efficient Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines. Featured with the Airspace cabin, the A330neo offers unrivaled enger experience and operational efficiency thanks to a redesigned welcome area, improved ambient lighting, larger and modern overhead compartments, and new window and lavatory designs.
Azul Linhas Aéreas launched operations in 2008 and has since grown to serve more than 150 destinations in Brazil, and flies non-stop for the United States, Europe and South America. Azul received the first A330neo in the Americas in 2019 and operates 12 aircraft of the A330 family. In the coming weeks, Azul will start operating four A350-900s to further expand its route offer and benefit from the Airbus standardization concept.
In Latin America and the Caribbean, Airbus has sold more than 1.150 aircraft and has a backlog of more than 500, with more than 700 in operation across the region, representing nearly 60 percent of the fleet-in-service market share. Since 1994, Airbus has handled approximately 70 percent of net orders in the region.
