Azul achieved a significant number of wheels and brakes repaired in its workshop in Viracopos, Campinas (SP). Since the first service on the wheels of a company plane in its specialized workshop, on April 30, 2020, more than 15.000 wheel and 1.000 brake maintenance procedures have been carried out to date.

For Flavio Costa, Technical Vice President of Azul, the company's Wheels and Brakes Workshop in the hangar has been yielding good results. “It is gratifying to reach these milestones in such a short time. Even more so because it has been a great advantage to have this maintenance carried out next to our main hub. Our aircraft, for example, spend less time down for repairs, which reduces costs and minimizes several other direct and indirect impacts on our operations. Another feature is that we can take advantage of our location and air operations to take repaired wheels and brakes throughout Brazil,” he explains.

With 1,2 m², Azul's Wheels and Brakes Workshop currently not only performs services on aircraft in the company's fleet – the most diversified in the country, and also with the capacity to meet the demands of any company that seeks out companies. This has occurred since the inauguration, this year, of the new business unit, Azul TecOps, specialized in maintenance, repairs and overhauls of the Airbus, Embraer, Boeing and ATR fleets. “We are working with excellence and know-how to serve several airlines. Our difference is to combine innovation with the renowned experience of Azultecs, our Maintenance Crew”, concludes the executive.

How the Wheels and Brakes Workshop works

The Workshop located in a strategic location, next to the Viracopos hangar, in Campinas (SP), has two types of wheel services: the first is the partial overhaul, in which the tire is changed, partial disassembly, inspections, assembly and testing, taking three days to complete these procedures. The second type of service is called general inspection or overhaul, responsible for carrying out all these partial inspection actions, and including the total disassembly of the wheels as well as further inspections and painting, taking an average of seven days to be made available for operation. .

Brake maintenance also follows the same two types of services, repairs and overhaul, taking around 12 days to complete.
