Azul and Azul Viagens, the company's tourism operator, ed forces to organize a special operation to receive and transport donations to Rio Grande do Sul.
The company has established grocery collection points in the 160 airports in which it operates and in the 103 Azul Viagens stores throughout Brazil. According to Porto Alegre City Hall's Social Assistance, the most necessary items for donation are non-perishable food and basic food baskets, personal hygiene items - such as toothpaste and toothbrushes -, bed and bath linen and mineral water.
The collected materials will be transported directly to Rio Grande do Sul by Azul aircraft. With a diverse fleet, ranging from Cessna Grand Caravan to Airbus model aircraft, the company has the necessary agility to reach smaller cities and facilitate the logistics of collecting and delivering donations in different parts of the country.
This Sunday (5), Azul Conecta carried out a flight supplied with essential items for those impacted and, this Monday (6), it will carry out a second operation that will depart from Jundiaí to the Belém Novo aerodrome with more essential items and antennas Starlink, donated by the government of Minas Gerais, which will help reestablish connectivity in the most affected regions.
In addition to the flights departing from the airport located in the interior of São Paulo, Azul Conecta also currently operates two humanitarian flights between Florianópolis and Belém Novo with essential items, each weighing 1 ton. The company is also studying new additional operations to transport donations. By land, Azul moved a fully stocked trailer, leaving from Navegantes to Viamão, with 17 tons of donations. Another vehicle left Florianópolis for the same destination.
Azul also promotes an internal donation campaign among more than 16 thousand Crew , which has already raised more than 6 tons.
Since April 24, Rio Grande do Sul has been facing one of the biggest climate catastrophes in its history, with 341 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul affected by floods. The affected communities are without access to drinking water, electricity, telephone services and have blocked roads.
