Bomb threat on board Air India flight to New York diverts flight to Delhi

A flight from Air India, en route to New York, had to make an emergency landing in Delhi after security received alerts about a bomb on the plane. The aircraft is now parked at IGI Airport and all security protocols have been implemented, Delhi Police said.

“An Air India flight operating from Mumbai to New York has been diverted to Delhi following a security concern arising from a bomb threat… All standard security protocols are being diligently followed to ensure the safety of engers and crew on board.”, D IGI said. The D added that the threat was received from a tweet on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

A Air India reported that after receiving the security alert, flight AI119 was diverted to Delhi. However, after a thorough inspection, no suspicious items were found on the aircraft.

The airline had its Boeing 777 departed Mumbai at 2:27 a.m., nearly 50 minutes later than scheduled, and landed about an hour and a half later. engers disembarked around 4:10 a.m. but were instructed not to remove their bags from the plane.

“Guests will be transferred to hotels once safety protocols are completed. The flight has been rescheduled for the morning of October 15. We appreciate the patience and cooperation of all engers. Air India is committed to and gives top priority to the safety of its engers and crew.”, said a spokesman for Air India.

In recent months, several Indian airline flights have received false bomb threats. In August this year, for example, an A320neo from Air India made an emergency landing for the same reason.

On September 6, a flight from Vistara from Mumbai to Frankfurt was diverted to Erzurum airport in Turkey after a note about a bomb on board was found in one of the toilets. The threat turned out to be a hoax, but the engers faced hardship, being stranded in Erzurum for almost 24 hours.

This was because, after completing the safety checks, the crew had exceeded their maximum duty time, which prevented them from carrying out a new flight without the mandatory rest. Thus, the Vistara had to dispatch an alternative aircraft with a new crew to transport engers from Erzurum to Frankfurt.
