A child of war, it parades its history through the narratives of its Squadrons, aircraft and their personalities, which add unique value in their peculiar way of defending the nation and maintaining the sovereignty of airspace.
The Fighter Aviation of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), on completing its 76 years, celebrated on April 22, brings in its memory a great journey, from the most different periods, whether singing the Carnival in Venice, applauding the Opera by Danilo or shouting Senta a Púa! Brazil!
With the anti-G (gravity) suit, the helmet and the oxygen mask, inside a tiny cockpit, surrounded by instruments, buttons and switches, incorporated in determination and courage, the pilots of the Fighter Aviation celebrate the date and follow the mission, flying very fast, and alone, ready to respond to the needs and challenges of the Air Force and the Country.
Currently, these soldiers work in the following Squadrons: the Joker (2nd/5th GAV), located in Parnamirim (RN), the Jaguar (1st GDA), in Anápolis (GO); Jambock and Pif-Paf (1st GAVCA), in Rio de Janeiro (RJ); Pacau (1st/4th GAV), in Manaus (AM); Poker (1st/10th GAV) and Centauro (3rd/10th GAV), in Santa Maria (RS); the Pampa (1st/14th GAV), in Canoas (RS); the Scorpion (1st/3rd GAV), in Boa Vista (RR); the Grifo (2nd/3rd GAV), in Porto Velho (RO); and Flecha (3rd/3rd GAV), in Campo Grande (MS).
In each of them, the training of pilots strives for excellence, u-to-date techniques and tactics, through research, studies, visits, exchanges and participation in operational exercises.
F-39 GRIPEN

Ratifying this, five of the future pilots of the F-39 Gripen are diligently preparing for the arrival of the new aircraft. Until July, they will carry out operational training in Såtenäs, Sweden. Training includes Conversion and Combat Readiness Training.
Subsequently, preparation will continue in Wing 2, in Anápolis (GO), headquarters of the First Air Defense Group (1st GDA), with instruction using a simulator. In total, 53 pilots and mechanics are preparing to receive the new vector.
In addition, Wing 2 also invests in infrastructure. According to the Unit Commander, Colonel Aviator Gustavo Pestana Garcez, the FAB has been preparing since 2014, when the contract for the development and production of the aircraft was signed.
“Since then, the Air Force has carried out meticulous planning in order to prepare all the necessary infrastructure, such as adapting hangars and hangars, constructing the F-39 building, lighting the apron, expanding energy capacity, etc. In addition, the planning also included the qualification of the workforce with various courses and training. Everything is going as planned and we will certainly be ready when the equipment and aircraft arrive here”, ensures.
The Commander of the 1st GDA, Lieutenant Colonel Aviator Leandro Vinicius Coelho, highlights the expectations with the approach of the arrival of the new aircraft.
“It will be another milestone in Fighter Aviation in these 80 years of FAB history. The F-39 Gripen, with its state-of-the-art avionics and high-capacity weapons, will surely place our Fighter Aviation at an operational level never seen in our country”He says.
WATER DIVIDER
Like the P-47 Thunderbolt, the Gloster F-8 Meteor jet and the supersonic Dassault Mirage III, the F-39 Gripen will arrive later this year to mark the history of fighter aviation for the Air Force.
Known for its efficiency, low cost of operation, high availability and advanced technological capacity, the vector will be responsible for the sovereignty and protection of the Nation, carrying out varied missions, such as policing the airspace in critical regions.
The use of this aircraft will bring an important qualitative and technological leap to Brazil due to some of the previously unpublished resources shipped to the FAB.
HISTORIC
