Flight BA248 from British Airways between Galeão (GIG) and London-Heathrow will be delayed for more than 24 hours after the crew that was supposed to take over the flight was robbed.
The sad fact happened at the time of the overnight stay, without further details of the place and time. In view of the situation, the state of shock on the part of the crew made it impossible to continue the flight that should have taken off on the night of this Wednesday (6), around 21:50. A new flight is scheduled to take place today (7) at 22:30.
This is the second time that a robbery involving a British Airways crew has occurred in Rio, the other time happening during the 2016 Olympics.
At the time, the crew was walking towards the hotel when they were surprised by a robber, the group was heading towards the Olympic Center. Phones and belongings were taken, and the robber pointed his gun at a couple of crew , who were with their son.
In recent years, Galeão has faced problems with the lack of international and domestic flights, and as a measure to make the airport more useful, Eduardo Paes, mayor of Rio de Janeiro, requested the limitation of flights from Santos Dumont to the Federal Government, which, in practice , would benefit Tom Jobim airport (GIG). The measure was widely criticized by aviation experts, who assess losses not only for airlines, but also for engers' decision to choose.
