Macaé Airport has gained an important addition to its portfolio of offshore operators. CHC do Brasil, part of CHC Helicopter, one of the world’s leading helicopter services companies, has begun operating in a new hangar. The global company will serve contracts with Petrobras.
The inauguration event was attended by executives from Zurich Airport Brasil, the concessionaire that manages Macaé Airport, the board of CHC do Brasil, as well as authorities and guests. With the arrival of CHC, the airport in the North of Rio de Janeiro now has 6 operators, all of whom are able to meet the strict safety standards required by Petrobras, the leading oil and gas producer in Brazil.
Initially, CHC will operate with three Leonardo AW139 helicopters, reaching seven aircraft by the end of 2025. The company currently operates 16 aircraft and is expected to reach 25 helicopters in the next 12 months. Macaé Airport currently has 7 hangars, 4 lounges available to operators for shared use and a workspace with workstations in the check-in area.
Furthermore, it is the protagonist of one of the largest infrastructure projects in the state of Rio de Janeiro, the construction of a new 1.410-meter runway, which will raise its category, as it will allow larger aircraft to land and take off. With an investment of R$220 million from Zurich Airport Brasil, the new runway is expected to be ready in February 2025.
