Chileans have discovered Santa Catarina as a tourist destination. This is what the enger movement data at Florianópolis International Airport shows.
Since January of this year, flights connecting Florianópolis to Santiago have handled 35 engers per month, figures that consolidate Chile as the third largest market for Florianópolis Airport in 2024, behind only Congonhas and Guarulhos in São Paulo and ahead of traditional markets such as Campinas, Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires. Currently, three airlines operate the route regularly, that is, all year round: JetSmart, Latam and Sky.
In the first year of regular operation of the route, in 2022, there were 60 thousand engers on the 3 weekly frequencies offered by Sky, which in 2023 expanded the offer to six flights per week and together with Latam and JetSmart moved 145 thousand people. In 2024, this number jumped to 279 thousand engers until August.
Aware of the high demand for the destination, airlines are increasing their flight offerings. Latam, which previously offered one daily flight to Santiago, increased the frequency to two flights per day in July of this year and will operate three daily flights during the high season. The Chilean low-cost airline Sky has two flights per day and will increase this to three daily flights during the summer. JetSmart, which currently has five weekly flights, will operate two flights per day during the high season.
