The government intends to promote, between the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022, the concession of the most profitable airports in the country, the Congonhas (SP) and Santos Dumont (RJ) terminals, said this Tuesday the Minister of Infrastructure, Tarcísio de Freitas.

According to him, next year, 22 airports will be granted to the private sector and the forecast is that a new concession batch, with 19 more airports, including Santos Dumont and Congonhas, will take place at the end of 2021 or at the latest in 2022.

The 2020 auction will be divided into three lots with the Manaus, Goiânia and Curitiba terminals as anchors.

“Our idea is to hold the auction at the end of 2021, which could happen in early 2022”, said Freitas after participating in an event promoted by the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI).

Asked about the plan of the government of Rio de Janeiro, which is expected to announce this Tuesday a reduction in the ICMS on aviation kerosene from 13 to up to 7 percent, the minister commented that the federal government "has been encouraging states to promote a reduction in ICMS ”.

“São Paulo did this and the government of Rio is announcing it now and these reductions are always linked to a greater number of routes and movements as a way of compensating for the reduction in taxes”, he added.
