From January to August 2024, around 220 thousand engers departed from BH Airport bound for the interior of Minas Gerais. Of this total, 85% chose 4 cities as their destination: Uberlandia, which received almost 60 thousand engers from the Minas Gerais terminal in the same period; Montes Claros, which was the destination chosen by almost 50 thousand travelers; Ipatinga, which received around 46 thousand engers; and Governador Valadares, where around 30 thousand people traveled, departing from BH Airport.
Among the engers flying to the interior of Minas, a significant portion comes from connections from other states in Brazil and other countries. Of the engers who departed from BH Airport bound for Uberlândia between January and August of this year, 36% came from other cities, such as São Paulo, Porto Seguro, Recife and Maceió. The BH – Montes Claros route also attracted many connecting engers: more than half of the travelers came from cities such as Recife, Salvador, Porto Seguro and São Paulo.
At the destination Ipatinga, 27% of engers came from other cities, including Montes Claros, Goiânia, São Paulo and Porto Alegre. Among the travelers who went to Governador Valadares during this period, 28% were on a connecting flight, coming mainly from cities in the United States, such as Boston, New York and Fort Lauderdale.
O BH Airport's Connectivity and Aviation Manager, Clayton Begido, highlights the importance of regional destinations and recalls that Minas Gerais is the state in Brazil with the most cities served by regular commercial aviation. “We are proud to be the second airport in the country in of the number of domestic destinations, and these 14 destinations within Minas Gerais are essential for us to bring even more connectivity to our engers. In addition to facilitating access to the interior of the state, these routes play an essential role in stimulating the local economy, strengthening tourism and creating opportunities for business and development in each of these cities,” he says.
