A Dutch court on Monday ordered the government to block all exports of F-35 fighter jet parts to Israel, amid concerns that they were being used in violations of international law during the Gaza offensive.
“There is a clear risk that Israel’s F-35 fighter jets could be used in serious violations of international humanitarian law,” the court ruled.
Deliveries must stop within seven days. Likewise, the government's request to suspend the order was rejected pending an appeal to the Supreme Court.
For Trade Minister Geoffrey van Leeuwen, the delivery of US F-35 parts to Israel is not unjustified. F-35s were crucial to Israel's security and its ability to protect itself from threats in the region. For him, the decision to appeal was not related to the “very worrying” situation in Gaza.
