Emirates, the largest operator of A380 aircraft, is doubling its investments to maintain and improve operational efficiency and maximize the performance and reliability of its double-decker fleet over the next decade.
The airline signed agreements worth more than $1,5 billion at the Dubai Airshow, with a broad network of suppliers and partners who will provide superior after-sales and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services.
Emirates will leverage the knowledge and capabilities of partners including Honeywell, Collins Aerospace, Pratt & Whitney, Safran, Lufthansa Technik, OEM Services, Gameco, Haeco and others to optimize the life of its A380 aircraft fleet and achieve additional gains of operational efficiency, all in accordance with your exacting standards. Emirates partners will provide a range of MRO services in addition to parts, component repairs and technical .
The work, already underway, is in line with the airline's commitment to quality and guarantees customers exclusive products and services on board its aircraft for years to come. In parallel to the maintenance work on its A380 fleet, the airline is carrying out the largest modernization program in the sector, worth 2 billion dollars, which will further enhance the onboard experience.
Emirates and collins aerospace have signed a long-term agreement to the airline's A380 main landing gear overhaul program. Collins is a key partner of Emirates and will provide local in the UAE for a substantial part of the A380 landing gear program review.
Safran Landing Systems will provide exclusive services to Emirates for the landing gear of the A380 aircraft. Safran's extensive network, which includes maintenance facilities in Singapore and , will provide Emirates with knowledge, capabilities and tailored services for the entire life cycle of the A380 landing systems.
Honeywell will provide carbon wheels and brakes for 116 A380 aircraft. Honeywell's advanced wheel and brake designs reduce weight and maintenance costs and help extend overall brake life. Wheel and brake maintenance will be carried out at Emirates maintenance workshops, ensuring ongoing maintenance in Dubai.
Emirates has extended its agreement with OEMServices, with whom it has had a 15-year relationship, for ongoing of Emirates A380 components, including the supply of spare parts, repair and engineering services.
Pratt and Whitney and Emirates have entered into a maintenance and agreement for the airline's PW980 auxiliary power units, the most powerful in commercial operations. Under the agreement, Emirates will receive adequate and effective planning and maintenance .
Emirates has developed a select network of partners providing MRO services for maintenance activities ranging from the nose, fuselage, wings to the tail of aircraft. The airline has worked collaboratively with these suppliers to consistently meet its commercial and technical performance requirements.
Lufthansa Technik will provide base maintenance services (BMS) for Emirates’ A380 aircraft and provide additional “C checks” (closer inspections) of the aircraft over the next three years in Manila. Lufthansa Technik's competence center for Base Maintenance Services in Manila has already carried out several thorough checks on Emirates A380s since January this year. Emirates has also signed a main landing gear agreement with Lufthansa Technik for future overhaul work.
The airline also made agreements with Gameco, headquartered in Guangzhou, China, and Haeco based in Xiamen, China, for “C checks” on A380 aircraft starting in January and February 2024, respectively.
Emirates currently operates around 90 A380 aircraft, with more scheduled to enter service in the coming months. Last year, the airline began its modernization program, in which 67 A380 aircraft will have all cabin classes renovated, in addition to the installation of new Economy Class cabins. So far, 16 aircraft have completed their renovation and are already in operation. The project, unprecedented in scale and size in the industry, is managed entirely by the Emirates Engineering team.
