Emirates Flight Catering, one of the world's largest food and dining providers, has fully acquired Emirates Bustanica, formerly Emirates Crop One, and its Bustanica brand, the world's largest vertical hydroponic farm.
With this strategic acquisition, Emirates Bustanica becomes a 100% UAE company, ing the country's vision of improving food and water security and its agricultural capabilities, allowing it to apply its knowledge and the latest technological know-how to meet growing market demands.
Located close to Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai World Central, Emirates Bustanica occupies more than 30.600 square meters and can grow more than 1 million kilograms of exceptional quality leafy greens per year, equivalent to 3 tonnes per day, using 95% less water than conventional agriculture.
Operating under the Bustanica brand, the products are available at leading UAE retailers such as Spinney's, Waitrose, Carrefour and Choithrams. Emirates and other airline customers enjoy these farm-fresh produce in their salads and meals.
Since its launch in July 2022, Bustanica has become part of UAE meals thanks to its growing variety of leafy greens, herbs and microgreens (miniature versions of vegetables) that can and should be eaten straight from the package as tap water can contaminate products. Bustanica products are grown without pesticides and herbicides and are 100% clean, fresh and rich in nutrients. Bustanica produces a variety of lettuce, spinach, parsley and kale.
Bustanica uses modern technologies such as machine learning, artificial intelligence and other patented technologies, and has a highly qualified in-house team that includes agronomy experts, engineers, horticulturists and botanical scientists.
Recently, Emirates Bustanica was chosen as the preferred supplier of agricultural products for COP28 (28th United Nations Climate Change Conference), a recognition of its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
