A Ethiopian Airlines, in partnership with Dar Al-Handasah (Give) (a construction and infrastructure consultancy of the group Sidara) signed a contract for the development of a new airport. The airport will be located in Aba, Bishoftu, south of the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa and Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD).
According to the Ethiopian Press Agency, a state agency, the agreement was signed on August 10. The announcement revealed that the project will be completed over a period of five years and will be divided into two stages. The first stage will involve the construction of a terminal with capacity for 60 million engers per year, with an initial investment of US$6 billion.
In the second phase, the airport's capacity will be expanded to more than 100 million engers annually. Mesfin Tassew, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, praised the know-how of Give in the creation and istration of mega airports. The agreement covers both the design and supervision of construction of the new airport.
A Give stated that he worked on projects at Dubai International Airport (DXB), King Abdul Aziz International Airport (JED) and Catumbela Airport (CBT), in Angola. THE Ethiopian Airlines uses ADD as its main hub.
The airline's airport page mentions that it is one of the busiest in Africa, with the capacity to handle 22 million international engers and 2 million domestic engers each year.
