Spanish air force Eurofighter Typhoon fighters are being deployed to Romania in of NATO. This will be the first time that Spanish Eurofighters are deployed for this specific mission. NATO's Spanish operation will last until March.
“This is the first time that Spain has sent [its] fighters to the southeast of NATO territory to the alliance’s deterrence and defense measures,” NATO Allied Air Command said.
In all, six Eurofighter fighters are being used, in addition, the operation involves 130 people who are already based on the Black Sea coast of Romania.
In addition to Romania, Bulgaria will also be included in the large operation called Southern Air Policing.
Other NATO missions with this focus also take place in Albania; in the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania; Iceland; Slovenia; and the BENELUX nations of Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.
