The ECA, or European Cockpit Association, created a new website to promote the Safety Starts With 2 campaign and combat the change in crew from two pilots to just one in the cockpit.
After EASA raised the possibility of operations with a single pilot on board, ALPA (International Airline Pilots Association), IFALPA (International Federation of Airline Pilots) and ECA (European Cockpit Association) began to forces. firmly oppose the measure, highlighting the risk to flight safety that it could pose.
The SNA (National Union of Aeronauts) also ed the demonstration.
As a form of publicity, ECA opened the website “One means None” (translated into Portuguese as “One means none”), where it explains in detail the risks and reasons to oppose the measure.
“Airplanes, especially large commercial ones, require multiple pilots for safe flight. Flight safety depends on a team of pilots sharing tasks and working together. Your duties include flying the plane, monitoring the flight, managing automation and dealing with any risks in a complex and changing environment. If a pilot becomes incapacitated or ill, there will be no one else in the cockpit to quickly take control. Reduced Crew Operations (RCO) are a gamble with your safety.”
“Airlines and plane manufacturers like Airbus and Dassault expect to sell more aircraft than their competitors. In particular, airlines are pushing to replace pilots with automation to reduce personnel costs and possibly increase their profits. While this serves their commercial interests, it will not make flights cheaper for engers.”
The official ECA website offers various materials for dissemination and clarification. Likewise, the SNA dedicated a section on its website to address the topic.
