A Brazilian Air Force (FAB), through the Harpy Squadron (Seventh Squadron of the Eighth Aviation Group) carried out on Wednesday (11) the rescue of a pregnant indigenous woman from the Wanapiki community, located at Polo-Base Parima, near the Surucucu region, in the state of Roraima (RR).
According to the FAB, the patient had serious complications during childbirth, which put the mother and baby at risk of death. Aeromedical evacuation (EVAM), carried out with a H-60L Black Hawk helicopter, was requested by the Ministry of Health and coordinated by the Ministry of Defense, which activated the Aerospace Operations Command (COMAE).

The aircraft arrived at the community after a four-hour flight, with a refueling plotter in clearing (process of transferring fuel from an external tank to the aircraft), due to bad weather.
The patient was extracted and transported to Boa Vista (RR), where an ambulance was waiting for her to be taken to the hospital, where she received medical care.

The Commander of the 7th/8th GAV and pilot of the aircraft, Lieutenant Colonel Aviator Michelson Abrahão Assis, spoke about the rescue: “The logistical difficulties allied to the adverse weather, inherent to the Amazon Region, make the mission of saving lives an extremely rewarding challenge”, reported.
