In the early afternoon of this Tuesday (22), a Northrop F-5M fighter from the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) crashed in Parnamirim, Greater Natal, in a forested region.
According to local media, the aircraft, registration FAB4866, experienced problems after takeoff. Although the cause of the accident is not yet known, videos circulating on the internet show the aircraft moments before the crash, and flames can be seen in the F-5M's engines.
According to the FAB, the pilot successfully ejected the aircraft, directing it to an uninhabited area. After the aircraft crashed, the Fire Department was called to contain the flames in the area of the accident. A FAB H-36 SAR helicopter was sent to rescue the pilot.
In recent days, the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) is making the final adjustments for the multinational exercise Cruzeiro do Sul (CRUZEX), the largest operational training orchestrated by the FAB scheduled to take place between November 3 and 15.

The Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (CENIPA) will investigate the accident in order to identify possible contributing factors to prevent similar incidents from occurring again.”
