GEIV FAB flights Salgado Filho airport

Between October 7 and 11, the GEIV aircraft of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) carried out flights to check the equipment that assists aircraft in the approach, landing and take-off procedures at Salgado Filho Airport, in Porto Alegre. This activity is part of the approval process for the rehabilitation works on the landing and take-off runway, as a result of the damage caused by the flood in May 2024.</p> The GEIV will the PAPIs (Precision Approach Path Indicator) of the recessed headlands, 11 and 29, and the Localizer/DME of headland 11. After this activity, the equipment records are analyzed so that a homologation document can be issued.</p> Papi is a device that assists the pilot, as it provides visual guidance on the descent slope for non-precision approaches. Localizer is a horizontal guidance system in the instrument landing system.
